Lactacyd Feminine Wash is a medicated wash and is usually prescribed by gynaecologists to treat vaginal infections along with other medication. I bought from a drug store/pharmacy on my own, to maintain feminine hygiene and to avoid infections.
It is a pearl white liquid (looks like shampoo) with mild pleasant fragrance.
PACKAGE DESCRIPTION AND INGREDIENTS:
I have added detailed information on the ingredients later in the post. Those who don't want the details can skip that part.
MY EXPERIENCE WITH LACTACYD FEMININE WASH:
I have used 3 bottles in the past and recently got my 4th one. But I have never used it continuously one bottle after another.
I have used feminine washes from Avon and Vagisil in the past and Lactacyd is much milder than them. The Avon Feminine Wash felt quite acidic and Vagisil irritated my skin for some time. Even the ingredient list of Lactacyd is much milder than Vagisil Feminine Wash. Except for Phenoxyethanol and Bronidox L, I did not find any other possible irritants in this product.
- You need a very very small amount and it foams up well giving you a squeaky clean feeling.
- Rinses out easily as compared to other feminine washes
- I prefer using on alternate days.
- Especially helpful in maintaining hygiene during periods.
- Does not burn on the skin
- Does not cause irritation
DO NOT USE LACTACYD FOR DOUCHING:
Lactacyd feminine wash is for external use only. Do not use this or any vaginal wash to clean deep inside the vagina forcing the liquid inside the body (Douching).
OTHER LACTACYD VARIATIONS:
Lactacyd is also available in numerous other variations in different countries. Some variations are Lactacyd pH3.5, Lactacyd Lasting Freshness, Lactacyd Nourish, Lactacyd Fresh Radiance, Lactacyd Teenage Vaginal Wash etc. There are also Lactacyd Feminine Wipes available in some countries.

DETAILED ANALYSIS OF LACTACYD PERINEAL WASH INGREDIENTS:
Zetesol MGS : Blend of Magnesium Laureth Sulfate and Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate Offers rich and creamy foam. Protects from low temperatures. Possesses very good skin and eye compatibility. Used in shampoos, foam baths, shower gelsHigh foaming surfactant for all types of body cleansing formulations, developing a very creamy foam.
Tegobetain HS = Cocamidopropyl Betaine (and) Glyceryl Laurate. It is a high purity grade amphoteric surfactant which has a low viscosity making it easily pumpable. It gives good foaming properties with a very mild skin feel and gives some mild *refatting properties. It is particularly useful in mild formulations such as baby cleansing formulations and intimate hygiene solutions.
*Refatting means something that replenishes the lipids of the hair or of the top layers of the skin.
Euperlan PK810: Blend of Glycol Distearate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide-MEA and Laureth-10. Used as a bath opacifying pearlescent agent (that gives pearl shine) for shampoos, foam baths, washing lotions, and other surfactants.
Lactoserum: The watery part of milk that separates from the curds, as in the process of making cheese.
Cetiol HE = PEG-7-Glyceryl Cocoate. It is highly soluble in water, has excellent cleansing effect and is also a reffating agent.
Phenoxyethanol: It is a preservative and is being widely used today as an alternative to parabens. So it is hard to avoid as it is present in most products. It is allowed up to 1% concentration in certain countries as it can be a potential skin irritant and can also cause neurotoxicity even at low concentrations.
Antil 141: It is used as a thickening agent in surfactancts. Has good dermatological compatibility.
Lindum TE 5482: I have no idea what it is as I could not find a single source of information on this on the internet.
Bronidox L = Bronidox L. is a solution of 5-bromo-nitro-1,3-dioxan in 1,2 propylene glycol. Just like Phenoxyethanol, it is also a preservative and acts as antimicrobial/ anti-bacterial agent. It is corrosive to metals so it may react with any metal rings you may be wearing.
Lactic Acid: Also known as milk acid occurs naturally in rancid/sour/ milk and curdled milk. It is also produced commercially. It is a disinfectant.

Delete3 yrs ago i was advised lactacyd by my gynic couple of months after my second delivery. I had complained to her about vaginal dryness and difficulty in intercourse. It worked perfectly that too in 2 nights usage. the problem never returned again. Though she did suggest that the cause for dryness was more because of being too preoccupied with the childs new added chores and responsibilities. I was very worried about this problem thinking maybe age was cathing up. had reached 30 then. I have used only 1 bottle till date. After initial use for my main problem and the rest of the bottle was used whenever there was any perineal itching. I would give lactacyd 100% effectives for dryness and itching. and yes no douching. Was checking about best hair colour when i came across your blog. i realised many people were reading your posts. Anyways, your valuable feedback will definitely help other readers. For hair colors, I have switched to Henna and trying to buy Indigo to get good coverage without using chemicals. Haven't been able to procure Indigo yet. But once I get it, we all may probably have the best hair color minus the chemicals. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi, first of all you should not be shy about discussing this, that's a disrespect to your body. The way God has designed a Man and Woman's body, there's nothing to feel shy about. When you get cold, fever, skin infection, don't you go show to a doctor? Then why not for Vaginal Infection? What's wrong with asking help for your body? It is not something that light to be ignored dear, it can be serious and important to your health in the future.

So a friend of mine suggested me to purchase INTIMATE WASH OF Oriflame. As I could not get it, I got LACTACYD today itself. I want to know that as you have suggested not to apply it inside the vagina and online outside, I want to know that how would my itching, which is inside the vagina go then ?

Dear Anumika, it could be an infection and you need to go see a doctor. Just using a hygiene wash alone will not help. The doc may prescribe a proper medicated tube to be applied on the inside with a syringe like stick that comes along with the tube or a tablet to insert inside using the same syringe. Please go see a doctor asap. It's humid weather and quite common to contract such an infection. But if not taken proper care of, it can turn into UTI (a painful urinary tract infection).

It seems you are the same person who left the above Comment. Using the wash alone will not help, the wash is meant for outside use only. You need to go see a gynecologist at the earliest as it is an infection and you might be given an ointment to apply on the inside or a small pill to insert. Discharge is normal after around 14 th day of period date when ovulation happens but other than that, any discharge or itching could be the signs of an infection.

I am not a medico and I should better leave it to the doctors to advise on such things. You mentioned "You have been suggested" which seems to mean you have been taking advise from some friends and I am shocked. ReplyDeleteYes you can use it if you feel the need. Just try to keep it to once in 2-3 days and not daily. Mainly doctors recommend it when someone gets an abnormal amount of discharge and discomfort due to an infection.

Hi. Your condition requires medical intervention before it gets worse and serious. Please go see a gynac and then use it if the gynac recommends it. This wash alone will not help. You will be given medication too. Using a hygiene wash once or twice a week in your bathing routine should not affect conception unless you use it right after intercourse. But you can check with your doctor in detail on this.

ReplyDeleteDear Paromita, it could be an infection as normally this can happen only once when ovulation happens after a few days of periods getting over. At that time it is normal to have discharge and some mild irritation can be there. Other than that, any irritation or itching could be a sign of infection. Never use soap in that area and keep pubic hair trimmed short so they don't retain water and sweat. Use a vaginal wash and if irritation persists even after 1-2 days of using the wash, time to see a gynac.

Itching right before and after the MC could be because of the harmones. I am not sure of the reason. I too get it most times and also when I have high acidity. But thick white discharge could be a yeast infection. Please see a gynac. You might be given a tablet to insert and also some medicated tube to apply. Urinary tract infections are common and most women get it soon after marriage, not always because of their own fault. Wear cotton undergarments and never use soap or any kind of talcum powder there.

Hi Ragini, I have been sent a sample of Vwash plus last month. I haven't started using it yet but had a look at the ingredients. Too many chemicals bother me and even though I see some really good ingredients in that, there are some others that I would like to stay away from. That said, all of them have some or the other harmful chemical so it's better not to use the same product for a very long time and keep rotating.

ReplyDeleteAll such washes recommend you to use at least twice a week but personally I use once in 2 days or so. You don't really need to use it twice a day unless you stay in a really humid region with a lot of sweating, or if there is a severe infection and the doctor may have recommended using that way. In summers I use almost daily but I have switched to Everteen Natural Intimate wash which is chemical free.
DeleteI bought the Lactacyd White for the first time. The texture looks almost like a shampoo/conditioner. Been using Lactacyd since 12, I'm 36y/o now, although not the feminine pink one, but I heard the Lactacyd blue& pink have almost the same ingredient. I used it alternately for a facial/body wash and feminine wash when have my monthly period. We used it for my little sister's diaper rash too. Now she's 26. Amazing product. I wonder why it's not widely marketed in USA. =(

DeleteAnyways, the dark outer skin is mainly caused by shaving or using hair removal creams. If your skin is extremely dry, then also a layer of dead dry skin can form. Other than that, I am not sure which hormonal reasons can cause it but you can check with a gynac.
You can simple soak some oats in a few spoons of milk till the oats become soft and then squeeze out the milk. Use this as a gentle scrub and see if this helps. Personally, I don't think the washes that claim to whiten your skin actually do anything except exposing you to harsh chemicals.

You don't need to take any precautions except that such washes should only be used to wash the vaginal area just like you use body wash for the rest of the body. Never use soap in this sensitive area and never use such washes inside the vaginal hole just for that extra clean feeling as that may cause infections. Dear Jyoti, you seem to have developed an infection. Thick white discharge also causes a lot of physical weakness, leaving you exhausted or with pain in the back or waist. Yes, you can use this wash but you also need to see a gynecologist. Using an intimate wash alone does not help fight infection. The doctor will give you medicine to be taken along with using a wash like this. Sometimes, they also give you a tablet to insert inside the vagina to kill the infection. You need to go through the full course of medicine which may be for 5-7 days, else the infection will continue.
DeleteApart from that, keep your pubic hair trimmed short and wear loose cotton undergarments. Perspiration and moisture/water stuck in pubic hair can cause infection. Also, never use soap to clean the pubic area. Once the infection is cured, you can try Everteen intimate wash which is chemical free and can be used daily without worries, but I am not sure if everteen will help with severe infection or not. Hope this helps.

When there is no infection and you just need a soap-free, chemical-free wash which you can use daily without worrying about chemicals, Everteen is the best and it also claims to tone and tighten the vaginal muscles.
DeleteBut when it comes to infection or itching, lactoserum is an important ingredient to treat infections. There are good bacteria that naturally occur in the vagina and infections happen when bad bacteria start growing and outnumbering the good ones. These washes kill the infection-causing bad bacteria without hurting the good ones which are essential. So during infections, Lactacyd Intimate Wash or Oriflame Feminelle intimate wash or the new VWashplus with tea tree oil and seabuckthorn oil ( pH3.5) are all good and mild.
It is best to avoid chemical based washes after you have shaved your pubic hair as some chemicals may be harmful on skin contact on any nicks and cuts/ freshly shaved skin. Personally I feel good to use Everteen daily as it is natural and when using lactacyd or any other chemical based wash, I use only once in 2-3 days. During infections you may need to use daily/more frequently..

Dear Gulgul, the cut could be due to dryness as soaps overdry our skin and then it may lead to cuts. I face this problem on my hands where I develop cuts due to overwashing with soap.
DeleteImmediately stop using soap to clean the pubic/vaginal area and just clean with water. It may feel odd to simply wash with water as you are so used to using soap there. But just control your urge and give that skin a little time to heal. You can use the yellowish water part of curd to wash that area. Then please go ahead and buy a good vaginal wash. You can go with Everteen Intimate wash as it is chemical free and does not dry out skin. Just check the Everteen Review link at the end of the article above. Lactacyd and all other chemical washes are Sulphates based which may further dry out the skin at this time. Also, since there is a cut, it is not advisable to use a chemical based wash at this time. But once the skin there becomes healthy, you can use any other intimate wash of your choice.

Hi there, it should not burn or may be 5ml is a lot of quantity so the burn may have been due to using a high concentration of liquid. When you use more quantity, they all burn. I just take a little amount on the palm by approximation and if it feels too much, next time I decrease the quantity. You can't literally measure.
DeleteTry reducing the quantity and see. V Wash i think has different packings. The one I have has tea tree essential oil and seabuckthorn oil added to it, it's a magenta, silver + white packing. To be honest, I found is better than lactacyd. It doesn't burn at all and washes out with very little water.

Deletehi i am 32, married and underwent IVF, waiting for pregnancy test after 1 week, i used vaginal supp. cyclogest as spplement for progesterone, now after one week, i have vulval redness, itching and swelling, no discharge, i experienced some sort of allergy before to artifical progesterone, cani use lactacyd to sooth area or contraindicated if pregnancy occurs

DeletePer my understanding, you should not be using such a wash during an IVF procedure. Most washes are pH balanced and on the slightly acidic side, to help maintain the natural pH of the vagina. So using an intimate wash during such a treatment may contradict with the treatment. However, once pregnancy has occurred, such a wash can be used as you are supposed to just wash the outer area of your intimate part. Many women do get vaginal infection during later in the pregnancy and are given medication and to insert inside and may be given such a wash to use.
That said, this is my understanding of how it works though I am not a medico. So your doctor would be the best guide in such a case.

ReplyDeleteYou clearly have an infection and the cut may have been caused due to over scratching/ itching or sometimes skin automatically gets damaged during severe infections, causing some skin to tear. I am not sure if you are married or not, so if you read my reply to Navjot's comment below, you would be able to figure out the reason that may have caused you such a severe infection. Vaginal infections do take time to go away and may keep returning often. So I understand how painful it may have had been for you.
DeleteIt is very important to not rub the area and wash it with plain water every time you pee and then keep a separate hand towel to pat dry the vaginal area. Try to avoid tight panties and if possible remain without panties for some time to let that skin breathe and heal faster. And if you can figure out what's causing you the infection, obviously avoid those things.
If the itching does not go away with merely washing and keeps returning within a few minutes or an hour, the doctor should have recommended you an ointment like candid-b to apply a thin layer on the infected area.

Dear Priya, this wash is not supposed to lighten your intimate parts and any brand that claims to do so is just fooling you and putting you into a very wrong mindset. The intimate parts are naturally darker than the rest of our body and it is the same for both males and females. As we grow old, the skin becomes even more dark. The inner lips of the vagina are naturally dark and become very dark after a woman's body goes through pregnancy.
DeleteNow if you are talking about the outer part of skin that is visible between the legs, the color of that skin should match the skin color of the rest of your body or can be just slightly darker than your natural skin color.That part of vagina becomes dark for people who use depilatory hair removal creams to remove pubic hair or who use cheap quality razors and regularly shave their pubic hair. That skin can simply be lightened to your natural skin color by stopping the use of hair removal creams and simply trimming your pubic hair to a very short length with scissors. Then scrubbing that area with oats soaked in milk or rubbing a slice of potato or using any mild scrub once in a few days to help remove the layer of dead cells and reveal clear skin from beneath.

ReplyDeleteDear Navjot, if you are talking about dryness in the inner/smaller vaginal lips, that can happen due to an infection. If you are using soap to clean your intimate area, the extreme dryness and itching could be due to the high pH / sulphates in the soap. Other causes of infection can be hygiene, infection caught from an unclean toilet, extremely minute bits of toilet paper left on the skin if you wash and wipe with toilet paper every time you pee, bleach and other chemicals present in the toilet paper, bleach and other chemicals present in the sanitary napkin material, sexual intercourse and spermicidals present on the condoms (in case of married and sexually active people).
DeleteAlso, you are more prone to infection if you do not trim your pubic hair, as longer hair retain moisture and sweat and lead to infections very often.
Lactacyd has definitely helped me during infections. In fact, I have just recovered from a very extreme infection and after using 3 different brands, it got cured when I finally shifted back to lactacyd and changed the sanitary napkin brand that was causing it.
You can definitely use lactacyd during periods too. Most brands recommend you using these washes twice a day. But it is best to use just once a day during periods and alternate days otherwise. And if you want to use daily, use a very small quantity as these are highly concentrated and don't lather like shampoos, so a very very small quantity is enough for one time use.
As for side effects, be it any personal care product, I prefer not to repeat the same brand continuously. Use one bottle, give a gap of a few days after it is finished, then shift to another brand, again give a week's gap on finishing that, then if you like, you can go back to the first brand again...so on.
And yes, I have never heard of anyone getting such an infection before periods. so the reason could simply be soap of long pubic hair etc. If the infection does not go away after periods, do visit a gynaecologist. Wear cotton panties and avoid synthetic ones which cause sweating. Try to change panty at least one extra time say in the evening.

ReplyDeleteAre intimate washes only for vaginal area, or can be used on thighs ? Will there us on thighs make the skin clearer and blackheads free? I never had any infection, but my thighs are really bad due to constant friction.
ReplyDeleteI am a regular user of this but I had stopped using lactacyd intimate wash for days because I have read that doctors doesn't require it unless directed by a physician. After few days of not using, I got itching and discharge but no odor. What do you think it is? It is almost a week now and I used lactacyd again but the itching and discharge did not diminish, what should I do?

ReplyDeleteI used lactifem earlier. Since it wasn't available in the market I bought this. Do you have any idea if lactacyd would be able to replace it or changing the company of the product won't be of much a problem ?
ReplyDeleteHey Vrinda, you should in fact never use the same product repeatedly for a very long time. Keep rotating between a few good brands. Else the body becomes immune if you keep using the same product and body stops responding to it.

As no discharge is noticed i m having only itching.
ReplyDeleteSuch infections are common in summers due to sweat, humidity and especially if you wear synthetic underwear or you keep longer hair down there. Just take care of these things and also do not use lactacyd during every bathroom visit. That's way too much. In normal days (no infection), you can use every alternate day or a very little amount daily. During infection, using 3 times a day should be more than enough and as the itching comes down, make it twice a day and then finally come down to once.
