Maybelline Baby Lips New Bright Collection Tangerine Pop Color Lip Balm Review

Maybelline Baby Lips Tangerine Pop Review

Maybelline has just launched 3 new bright colors in its raved and famous Baby Lips lip balm collection. This is a review of the shade Tangerine Pop from the newly launched 'New Bright Collection' of Maybelline Baby Lips. Don't go by the name 'bright' or you will be disappointed because Tangerine Pop is a gorgeous soft peachy orange shade, nowhere near to 'bright'. It is a translucent lip balm. It looks like you have applied lip gloss but it is totally non-sticky. It gives a healthy peach glow to lips making them look natural and full. You can buy it from HERE.

Maybelline BabyLips Lip Balm Anti-Oxidant Berry Review

This is a review of Maybelline Babylips Lip Balm Anti-Oxidant Berry. This range of Maybelline lip balms comes in 7 flavors: 2 transparent and 5 tinted/colored.

Maybelline Babylips lip balm is around for almost a year now, and even after reading a few reviews, I didn't buy. I used to have ever dry lips as I take my tea very hot. It was when one day I kissed my little one and it pricked his soft cheeks, he asked me why my lips were so 'sharp'. That hit somewhere in my heart and I ended up buying this one for it's clams of 8-hr hydration.

Price: INR 125 (different for different flavors)
Quantity: 4gms
SPF 20
Color: Light Pink/ Transparent on Lips
Shelf Life: 36 months from date of Mfg

MY EXPERIENCE WITH MAYBELLINE BABYLIPS ANTIOXIDANT BERRY LIP BALM
Maybelline BabyLips Lip Balm Anti-Oxidant Berry review
Used Tube. Actual length was more than this.

The first time, I applied Maybelline Babylips Antioxidant Berry lip balm at night on very chapped lips and woke up the next morning with super soft lips I had never felt for years. So it is true to its claim of giving you baby soft lips. Night was the best time to apply as your skin cells undergo repair during sleep.

Next day I applied in the day and even after two small meals, my lips were still soft and I didn't need to reapply. Within a few uses, it made the lips appear fuller and pinkish. My lips used to be dry so they never looked so pink earlier. When the skin is deeply hydrated, the translucent skin on the lips becomes more see-through and the lips appear pinker. This lip balm keeps lips soft the whole day with just one application, but you may reapply as per your requirement.

It is non-greasy. There is a slight shine when you apply, but it looks good and not too shiny. The color is baby pink but it is transparent on the lips. I didn't like the berry taste. Every time I apply it, I am reminded of mixed fruit jam :) I mean when I apply, I feel flavored fumes hit my mouth's roof, though I can't feel any taste on my tongue. Thankfully the fumes go away within a couple of minutes. But that's just a personal preference. Most of you should be fine with it as it is not a negative point.

I find this to be a good product and would like to try the tinted/ colored versions later. I have already tried it in direct sun and it gave good protection. This tube should last me pretty long and I don't like hoarding stuff. This is great value for money.

PLUSES:
  • True to its claims of hydration
  • Repairs lips quickly
  • Doesn't need frequent reapplications
  • Stick packing is convenient, hygienic and travel friendly
  • SPF 20
  • Transparent color is suitable for both men and women
  • Cheaper than other variants, has higher SPF and hydration power
  • Value for Money
MINUSES:

People with dark/pigmented lips may prefer the other flavors in colored variations.

The flavors of Maybelline Babylips Lip Balm released in India are different from their International flavors in other countries. Here are the other flavors available in India that you can try out:

Maybelline BabyLips Lip Balm Flavours and Price India
Maybelline Anti Oxidant Berry and Mango Pie flavors are both transparent on lips, have a higher SPF (20), higher hydration power (8hr claim) and cheaper than the rest of the flavors.  The colorless application makes these two flavors perfect for both men and women: great sun protection and hydration all round the year.

Those who prefer tinted lip balms, can try the remaining 5 colored flavors with SPF 16 and 6hr hydration claim.

Easily available online and in local stores. Which one have you already tried and how's your experience with it?

BRAND EYE OPENER: Loreal Makeup Remover Vs Maybelline Makeup Remover

This is a comparison between the Loreal and Maybelline eye and lip makeup removers. But this post is more of an eye-opener as to how big brands are befooling customers and ripping us of money.

Loreal Dermo Expertise Makeup Remover Vs Maybelline Eye and Lip Makeup Remover

Exactly a month ago when I was reviewing L'Oreal Paris Dermo Expertise Eye and Lip makeup remover, I did some research on other similar products in the market. I discovered that L'OREAL and MAYBELLINE makeup removers have EXACTLY THE SAME INGREDIENT LIST, except a number mentioned in the beginning of the list.

I could not figure out what that number was and how only that number made the two products different. So I called up the L'Oreal Customer Care toll free number mentioned on the Makeup Remover bottle (1800-22-3000). The customer care rep confirmed a few details as to why I needed that information and then told me the number is for company's internal purpose. I was told a unique number is assigned to every product's ingredient list . She was still unsure and said she will get back to me.

The next day I received a call from Maybelline India from Mumbai, yes you heard it right, I was promised a callback from L'Oreal and I received a callback from Maybelline India.

To those of you who feel equally surprised, let me tell you that Maybelline is owned by L'Oreal. It was taken over by L'Oreal back in 1996. Even I was not aware of it till that day :)

Now let's take a look at the ingredient list for the L'Oreal Paris and Maybelline Eye and Lip Makeup Removers and compare:

L'Oreal Paris Vs Maybelline Eye and Lip Makeup Remover review
IDENTICAL INGREDIENTS
(L) L'OREAL PARIS DERMO EXPERTISE EYE AND LIP MAKEUP REMOVER
(R) MAYBELLINE EYE AND LIP MAKEUP REMOVER
Before that day, I was biased towards L'Oreal even though it is much costlier than Maybelline. I have heard Maybelline eye makeup irritates eyes and I had never felt any irritation with L'Oreal products. Also, I have used Maybelline waterproof lip pencils which darkened the outline of my lips and I stopped using. But in this case you can see, the INGREDIENT LIST IS IDENTICAL.

Now my question is, why are they being sold as two different brands and at two different prices? Maybelline eye and lip makeup remover comes in 40 ml (Price INR 125) and 70 ml (price INR 215) packings and L'Oreal Dermo Expertise Gentle Makeup Remover comes for INR 425 for a 125 ml packing. When I calculated per unit rate, obviously L'Oreal is much costlier. Recently, the price for the Maybelline makeup remover has also been increased from INR 190 to INR 215 (for the 70ml pack).

I have used the L'Oreal Makeup remover and have read many reviews for the Maybelline makeup remover. Some said L'Oreal makeup remover is more effective as a small amount is enough to remove even stubborn makeup.  I use the L'Oreal one. While some other women swore by the Maybelline one. They mentioned that the Maybelline makeup remover is less oily and works better than the L'Oreal one.

My mind says, unless there is a difference in the % amount of certain ingredients, the two products are identical. And even if there is a difference in the composition, WHY IS IT THERE in the first place? And if that is the case, why is there a compromise in quality for a few extra bucks for which they are selling the L'Oreal Makeup Remover. All the brands in the market are ultimately owned by only a few BIG WHALES, it's just that we as customers are not aware and paying them all the money they open their big mouths for.

Thanks for reading and feel free to share your views on this in the comments.

MAYBELLINE NEW YORK the COLOSSAL VOLUM’ EXPRESS MASCARA REVIEW (Washable)

This is a detailed user review for Maybelline Colossal Volume Express Mascara. This product comes in two variations: the washable one (yellow+purple package) and the waterproof one (yellow+sky blue package). This review is for the washable variation.

This is the first Maybelline mascara I have used. I have used Lord and Berry treatment mascara, Revlon waterproof Mascara and Almay lengthening mascara in brown in the past. This mascara does add drama to your lashes and highlights them beautifully. ‘M loving it’ more and more with every wear.

Product description on the mascara bottle/tube

MRP: Rs 275 (Inclusive of all taxes)
Net Content: 10.7 ml
Product life: 2.5 yrs from import date
Made in France
Any complaint, call consumer advisor on 1800 22 3000 or E-mail at advisor@maybellineindia.com

Product Claims:
Colossal Volume – in just one coat (the one coat claim is Incorrect)
No Clumps (Correct)

THE RESULTS
THE PLUSES

1.  Lengthens Eyelashes:  It gives you decent volume with several coats, but it actually makes lashes look EXTREMELY long and dramatic. It should rather be marketed as a lengthening mascara than a volume building one.

2.  Affordable: The product is fairly decently priced at Rs 275 for the kind of results you get. In fact, I found it better than my other mascara, which is 3-4 times costlier than this.

3.  Easy to Apply: The applicator wand is nicely bristled, has just the right length of the tip and easy to manoeuvre. I could apply several neat coats in just a few seconds and had to dip the wand in the bottle only twice, to get a good application.

4.  Not Messy: When you unscrew the wand out of the bottle, it brings out just the right amount of mascara to nicely coat both the lashes a few times. Does not dirty the area around your eyes while applying.

5.  Doesn’t Clump: The consistency of the mascara formula is perfect:  neither very thick, nor very watery, which is why it makes your lashes look naturally thick. Most reviews on the internet claiming that it does not give volume, are incorrect. In fact it does give decent volume, and very good length.

6.  Stays Very Long:  Does not come off with sweating or wetting. Does not spread smudge or wear off even after hours of wearing (I wear daily for at least 10-14 hrs in summer heat).  I even happened to doze off one night with this mascara on, and woke up to find it intact with no harm to the lashes.

7.  Gentle: Lashes do not feel hard or plastic like on wearing this mascara. My Revlon Waterproof mascara used to harden my eyelashes like plastic, giving me bad headache within an hour. I am wearing this Maybelline mascara comfortably till late night.

8.  Holds Curls: You don’t need to curl your lashes separately. While coating from root to tips, just put a little pressure on your lash tips to make them curly and repeat several times. Let it dry.  The curl will stay till you remove the mascara.

9.  Beautifully separates Eyelashes: Since I applied several coats, the ends of my lengthened eye lashes started sticking to each other. I dabbed lightly with a tissue paper and let dry. The lashes came out beautiful and separate on drying.

10. No broken lashes: Unlike my other costly mascara, this mascara does not cause my eye lashes to break, touchwood.

11. Contact lenses friendly: The best part, I even wore it with contact lenses without any problem, itching or irritation.

12. Foolproof packing: Comes in a sturdy plastic packing that won’t break upon dropping. Won’t leak. It comes in a bold bright yellow tube, helping you find it easily in your dark lining purse.

THE MINUSES

1.Sometimes irritates on contact with water: The packaging does not say if it is opthalmologically tested or not. Upon first wear, I felt slight irritation at the root of my lashes and had to scratch the skin every few hours. Most times, I comfortably wear it for at least 7-10 hours. But whenever the mascara happens to get even slightly wet, the chemical releases into the eyes and irritates. It is not waterproof and it is the same with all non-waterproof eye makeup items.

2. Chemical Smell: Smells like some eye medication or may be fountain pen ink, though it smells better than the ewww smell of waterproof mascaras.

3. Less Volume than claimed: The brand’s claim of colossal volume in just one coat is exaggerated. You do get decent volume, but with several coats. However, this product won’t disappoint you for sure.

4. Bottle doesn’t stand: The mascara bottle is shaped like an elongated eye or an elongated wheat grain, like an Indian gulli to be precise:  fat in the middle and very thin at the ends. It keeps falling on the table.

HOW TO REMOVE THIS MASCARA?

Despite being washable with soap and water, this mascara should be removed with oil and rose water. Read on to know why...

Initially I didn’t know it was washable and kept removing it with oil and rose-water my previous mascaras. There was not a single broken lash hair when I removed with oil.

The day I discovered it is washable, I tried removing it with Johnsons baby top-to-toe, no tears wash (didn’t have the heart to hurt my eyes with soap). It came off but broke my lashes and badly stung my eyes due to the chemical that got in my eyes while washing.

With oil, it comes off with 1-2 min of gentle oil massage into my eye lashes with my pinky (smallest) finger. You can use almond, coconut or any other branded make-up removal oil. I used Biotique Bio almond Oil (face and eye makeup remover oil). Plain parachute coconut oil works equally well.

It is very important to remove eye makeup properly to keep your eyes healthy. You can read my tips on applying mascara here and tips on removing mascara eye makeup here.

AVAILABILITY:

Easily available in retail stores in most cities. Not available in mine. I wanted to buy this one in Feb this year, but I had read mixed reviews about this product on the internet.  So I bought another one. This one came in a PRIZE hamper from goodlife.com for winning in their Facebook Summer Tips contest, along with two other items.  Even though I have another new mascara, I was very enticed to try it and am pleasantly surprised with the results . You can buy it online from goodlife.com (free shipping on orders above Rs 100, which qualifies this mascara for free delivery), medplusbeauty.com (free shipping above Rs 300), urbantouch.com (free shipping above Rs 300) and many other online stores that offer great service and cash on delivery.

THE VERDICT:

A very affordable formula with great results. Can be used as an everyday makeup item without burning a hole in your pocket. Makes a great gift for a young girl who has just started using makeup. Since the washable variation is so good, I am hoping the waterproof variation should be very good too. Will try after finishing the two mascaras I presently own.
